1- Sixteen percent of men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer that has spread to lymph nodes or metastasized to other distant locations.
2- 20-30% of men diagnosed with early-stage disease will experience a
prostate cancer recurrence within 10-years of their diagnosis.
3- Although the overall survival rate for prostate cancer is
high, the 5-year survival rate among men with distant metastases is less than 30%.
4- The incidence of metastatic prostate cancer increased by 72% between 2004 and 2013.
5- The most significant increase in the frequency of metastatic prostate cancer was found in men diagnosed between 55-69 years of age. In this age group, effective treatments have the potential to prolong and improve the quality of life significantly.
6- There is a need to improve treatments for men diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer whose cancer-specific survival has not changed significantly in recent decades.
